Parenting Counselling and Therapy Salisbury & Wiltshire
Being a parent is a lifetime occupation, often combining dizzying highs and overwhelming lows into the same long journey.
It is in these lows that many parents ask:
• Do I lack skills in parenting?
• Why don’t my children respect me?
• How come other parents don’t appear to have problems with their children?
• Is it my fault or is it my child’s fault that we don’t get on?
Although problems in the parent/child relationship might initially point to the child and their outward behaviour toward us, it could be that we’ve had difficult relationships with our own parents and we’re replaying that in the relationship with our own children.
This could lead to further questions or self-doubt about whether we were mistreated or whether we were being over-sensitive? Our parents plant mental and emotional seeds in us – seeds that grow as we do. In some families, these are seeds of love, respect and independence. In many others, they are seeds of fear, obligation and guilt.
Change Counselling offers parent support in Salisbury.
