How Does Counselling Work?
How does Counselling and Therapy start?
Counselling/psychotherapy is an active relationship which requires work and commitment on both sides. Trust between myself and my clients is critical. I aim to facilitate an accepting, non-judgmental, confidential space and relationship, where you feel met, and ultimately giving you the chance to begin your chosen path for change.
I offer a free 15 minute Initial Telephone Assessment with no obligation to commit to further sessions.
This offers the opportunity for you to get a sense of how I work. It is a space for you to share a little about yourself and to ask any questions that you may have. We can discuss what it is you hope to gain from counselling and whether it is right for you.
Duration and frequency
The length of your therapy will be determined by you. We can discuss this in your initial consultation as well as during your course of therapy. Sometimes, the help you need may be specific, focused and short-term, maybe up to ten sessions, as you find your way through a difficult period in your life. At other times, you may wish to explore deeper issues and the work may span over a longer period, perhaps several months or years. Sessions are for 50 minutes and usually take place on a weekly basis.
Confidentiality is kept under all circumstances guided by the BACP Ethical Framework.
